Be Your Authentic Self

*Disclaimer*

If you’re a people pleaser I have some bad news for you…..not everyone is going to like you. However, the good news is…You don’t need to care!

I’ve been there before, I know you have and there’s going to be many more times where you want to impress someone but they are not reflecting the same effort you’re giving out. Our brains are a bit fucked, in terms of when we want to impress someone we over analyse a situation and try to over compensate the person the person we’re truly are.

Recently, I had an epiphany moment where I realised I don’t need to impress anyone but myself. Not everyone is going to agree with me, not everyone is going to like me and I’m fine with that. The people who are meant to be here are already here for this journey in my life.  I shouldn’t have to hide my personality in order to fit in, I should unapologetically be my authentic self!!

Lets go on a journey to becoming your authentic self:

  • Stop overthinking

Overthinking is the biggest problem when trying to be your authentic self. Anything you tend to do will make you over think but, if you turn that negative voice into something positive, you’ll start to quieten down that negative voice.

  • Stop seeking validation from others

Seeking validation from others will only end up in a spiral of you questioning yourself. If anyone is trying to change you into something you’re not, leave that relationship. They should love you whole-heartedly.    The only person that can define you is yourself!!

  • Embrace your uniqueness

You know that unique laugh you have, embrace it! laugh from the belly, scream from the roof tops. The quirkiness you have is the best thing about you, embrace it. We love it!!!

  • One thing at a time

Do something everyday that you can be proud of, even if it’s just walking for 10 minutes

  • Let go

Let go of the negativity and the past. It’s called the past for the reason.  A lovely quote I discovered is ” If you are depressed, you are living in the past. If you are anxious, you are living in the future. If you are at peace, you are living in the present”. This is so true because it ties back into being your authentic self.

  1. What a lovely blog post! I personally struggle with the let it go part at times as some things just seem to haunt you even if you should’ve left them behind. But it’s always important to remember your own strength and posts like this one really help! xxx yella

    1. Thank you so much! I can definitely agree with the challenges of letting go, it’s not going to happen miraculously but over time with practise and patience it will beome easier . The great thing is you are aware of it, so it’s one step into the right direction

  2. Great post! I know what you’re talking about – I’ve been there. But I learned to love myself first and to please my self. I’ve had hard time telling no to the things I don’t like or to people I don’t wanna hang out with. But finally I can say that I totally act in accordance with who I am. 🙂

  3. Lovely post and good reminder for everyone of us. Don’t concentrate on getting others complements or competing with them – just focus on becoming a better version of yourself. ❤

    1. It’s very hard especially for people who are highly sensitive or take on others validation more than their own but with patience and perseverance, we will all get through it ❤

  4. This is beautiful. I for so long struggled with being comfortable enough with the world around me to share who I am and to be my authentic self. I am extremely introverted and sort of an old soul. That never went well for me growing up. I was bullied and made to feel small and like I did not matter. Now being 23 I have learned and have grown so much. This post is so true and this message needs to be shared with as many people as possible we are all so unique and we all give the world something so special. ❤
